Surgical Errors

Every time a person undergoes a surgical operation at a hospital or clinic, under the care or a doctor and/or nurse, there are risks of surgical and medical malpractice. Surgical errors may occur during the pre-operative care, during the course of the surgery, or during post-operative care.

There are numerous circumstances that may arise relating to a surgical error including:

  • organ puncture or perforation
  • delayed surgery
  • prolonged surgery
  • incorrect procedure or incision
  • use of unsanitary surgical utensils
  • surgery on the wrong organ, or wrong side of the body

While not every error or complication that occurs during a surgical procedure will result in a medical malpractice claim, some errors may have been preventable and may be an appropriate case to bring a medical malpractice claim.
